Tonight a man is spending 6 months in jail for stealing a $15 dollar bike purchased at the famous police auction.

57 year old Marlon Blease is accused of stealing the bike from a store on Central American Boulevard where the woman worked. Police reviewed the security camera footage which captured the moment that Blease removed the bicycle from the bike rack outside the store and then rode off.

lease was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Jayani Wegodapola and pleaded guilty to the charge of theft and admitted to stealing the bicycle.

Blease, who is a 4 time offender and was previously on remand for two months on another charge of theft, begged the court to grant him a fine instead of prison time. Given his history the chief magistrate was of the view that Blease was in consistent breach of the law and failed to rehabilitate himself in jail. He was thus sentenced to six months in prison which began on July 10th leaving Blease with only 4 months left to serve.
