Tonight Belizean diplomats are likely scrambling to explain remarks made yesterday by Prime. Minister John Briceno.
In an interview about the movements of the Belize Territorial Volunteers on the Sarstoon River - he urged them to be cautious - and keep in mind the small size of Belize's military. In concluding - he said casually, quote, "we can't invade Guatemala - as much as we would like to."
Here is that full remark - with some brief context:
John Briceno, Prime Minister
"I'm urging them to be careful. I mean they take children out there sometimes and God forbid something were to happen, what are we going to do? we can't invade Guatemala as much as we'd like to but we can't. So what we have to do again using diplomatic channels, we go to the UN and decry Guatemala behavior or aggression in our land."
