Also giving an interview during yesterday's march for Palestine was Minister of State, Dr Louis Zabaneh. He's the Minister of State for Education and in charge of implementing the new national curriculum framework.
One of the features of it is that it will not force government schools to pass students up to a new grade, just because of their age. Zabaneh explained:

"So students do not pass being skipped as a result of their age. Is the ministry doing away with that?"
Dr. Luis Zabaneh
"That's precisely what competency based education is about. It requires a type of assessment that you do not move on until you have exhibited mastery. And then teachers are trained to make sure that those students who are behind gain the mastery and then everybody moves together. That's the whole concept of competency based education. So this whole issue that you will be passing somebody on and they're not prepared, as we have been doing and we've been suffering from that now has to end with if we're abiding by the framework."
