Firearms And Ammunition Control Board Named
posted (January 5, 2024)
Four months after the legislation was passed - the first Firearms and Ammunition Control Board was named. It comprises the CEO for the Ministry of Home Affairs Sharole Carr-Saldivar, Magistrate Mannon Dennison, and Sr. Superintendent of Police, Clement Cacho - who currently works out of the commissioner of police's office.

This board will now be receiving, screening, and processing all firearm applications, and designate mandatory Firearm Safety Instructors. They will also investigate complaints about licensees and develop and implement a digital management of firearms and ammunition systems.

A release says, quote, "this newly adopted structure is to transform and reform how the Government of Belize regulates the sale, purchase, importation, exportation, trans-shipment, disposal, possession, and use of firearms and ammunition."

We note that the Firearms Amendment act also calls for the board to conduct audits of firearms and ammunition - but the law does not say how often, and today's release made no mention of it.
