Man Claims Harassment For Gang Membership
posted (January 10, 2024)
A resident of Supal Street in Belize City, who was previously convicted for being a gang member, alleges that since he's been out on bail he has been harassed continuously by law enforcement. Ervin Fitzgibbon says that he's been detained by police multiple times since being released, without question, and he's had enough of being profiled by authorities. Fitzgibbon says it all started when his little brother was killed in 2021.

Ervin Fitzgibbons
"They just start target me, and nobody is there to say they will report nothing at the station. They just target me and target me."

Jo-
"What are they targeting you for?"

Ervin Fitzgibbons
"They say that i am involved in what happened at Mahogany heights and then at the end of the day things are happening but you can't point fingers at me because at the end of the day somebody would have said that they see you and and they will lock up you every minute nobody came and gave a statement against me to say that they locked me down and locked me down so i understand that this is the reason why I am getting detained I want to know what's going on."

"But yeah I got to them for job and thing at CYPD from 2022 and they are just shuffling me around but yet they are locking me up they don't want you to do something yeah today I went there again bout they will try to squeeze me in they have old man working for them that has nothing to do with these jobs, they have women working and yet they say these are to help gangs but yet they are charging me for being a member of a gang but won't let me work so I'm not from a gang it's the ones working who belong to a gang they are the ones who should be harassed. They won't give me any gang job so they are proving to the world that i am not in a gang."
