Cristina Condemns Youths For Disrespect
posted (January 29, 2024)
And while the meeting was charged with frustration, disappointment, and even anger, the ongoing process is an emotionally taxing one, so much so that even the MLA spokesperson, Cristina Coc got a little choked up. It's a fight she has dedicated her life to, and one she intends to see through to the end. So it's no wonder she is concerned over comments made by young Maya people in the district, when the elders have been working to ensure that the land can be passed on for generations. Here's what she emphasized at the meeting.

Cristina Coc, Spokesperson, MLA
"We have to hold accountable our own people. Our own people who will kill our future generations. We have to hold them accountable, it's no longer enough for us to sit and hear them throw insults at our people, throw insults at our leaders. I hear my own young Maya people say, those Alcaldes can't read, those Alcaldes can't write, they did not even read the policy and they tear it up, somebody's brainwashing them. Communities, it's not enough for us to be quiet, let's call them out. I've seen many of you call them out, you have to continue to do that."
