Today marks day three of the Bladen 12 trial, and as he promised yesterday attorney Leroy Banner gave us a few words on today's proceedings. Though the trial has yet to officially begin and remains in the early stages of a preliminary trial within a trial, Banner says there is uncertainty surrounding how much longer this trial will last and it all depends on how many witnesses the crown will bring to the stand.
Leroy Banner, Attorney
"Like I explained yesterday we are in the voider and it is very improper for me to give any comment because the
magistrate is about to make a ruling whether the statement was given freely and voluntarily so as much as I want to
comment I can't because it would be improper of me to do so."
"Now we are saying that our client was assaulted in custody before he gave certain statements. The police are saying
that they prepared a prisoners custody form and that form should contain details on one of the important and one of the
important details is that the condition that the person was in when he was detained and that is crucial for our case
because we want to show that okay what condition he was in when he was being detained by the police."
"These things are live and some days it might be longer some days it might be quick so I can't say exactly how
many more days we have but em it's just one day at a time with this voider it's a bit techno so it might take a little
longer but the main case might be a bit quicker we will be agreeing to 30-40 witnesses so we don't have much contention
in the main trial."
The case resumes on Monday at 9:30.
