I went up north today to find out more:

Saturday morning's murder of 40 year old Breeann Kyle in Libertad Village Corozal district, has now turned into a Murder/suicide case. The accused, 24 year old Jaquan Smith took his life while in the Corozal police station cell block this morning.

It's a chilling tale that now leaves their 9 month old child orphaned.

According to neighbors the couple had moved to the area a few months ago, but kept to themselves given that they lived on the outskirts of the village far from other residents.

Speaking off camera with a relative and a close family friend, we learned that the events leading up to the discovery of 40 year old Breean Kyle's body in her home, all began with a cryptic text she sent her parents in the US on the morning that she was killed.

Kyle's parents became worried after making several attempts to contact their daughter following a final text message she had sent to them reportedly saying, "saying "save the baby!"

In desperation, they reached out to a friend living in Belize to urgently check on her.

He sent his father, cab driver Avilio Urbina, and when he arrived at the residence, he saw the gate was not locked and called Kyle's parents and asked them for permission to enter the property.

The door was unlocked and he he only pushed it slightly when he saw the blood stained couch in the living room. Terrified, Urbina then called the police and her family in the the US to inform them that their daughter was dead inside the home.

It wasn't until after police arrived that they found the baby in a crib inside the house unharmed.

And as for Kyle's partner 24 year old Jaquan Smith, upon fleeing the scene he crashed near mile 74 where he was intercepted by police and taken to the Corozal Police station. In a statement he gave to the police, Smith claims that someone had broken into their home and murdered his partner. Less than 24 hours after he was detained he reportedly hung himself inside his cell.
