She was found guilty of child cruelty in early March - almost 7 years after her adopted daughter 13 year old Fate Lin Canon died of neglect, malnutrition and physical and sexual abuse. And today, Anke Doehm was sentenced to 5 years in prison for child cruelty.
Doehm reacted with confusion and shock after being told she's going to jail. But she was lucky to have only gotten 5 years since the offense carries a prison term of 14 years.
In handing down his sentence, Justice Derick Sylvester noted that Doehm showed no remorse for the death of her daughter and has still not accepted liability for her action.
Justice Sylvester was also of the view that Doehm needed psychological help and must be considered a danger to children in society so he added to the sentence that she must participate in all Rehabilitation Programs at the prison.
Today, Doehm appeared very frail as she walked towards the prison van. The court noted that she has blood cancer which was diagnosed in 2018.
