Not Boots Martinez calling it a comeback in Port Loyola! You might not want to believe it, but that's just what it is. A candidate who retired after he lost his last election in 2020 with only 17% of the vote is coming back. Boots Martinez has been chosen as the replacement for the ousted Phillip Willoughby in Port Loyola. Martinez was the four time area rep for that constituency - and never lost there. He also recently gathered close to two thousand signatures in an attempt to recall the current area rep.
But, the casual observer may say, Boots! - how did the UDP get back there? Well, ask Daddy Dean. 7News has seen a text message sent to another aspiring candidate who wanted the seat. In it a party official is telling him that the former party leader was pulling for Boots to get back unto the party dancefloor. Other sources have also confirmed the former leader's endorsement.
And, Dr Abraham Flowers has been named standard bearer for Freetown, while the candidate who lost the mayoral seat by a healthy margin in her first candidacy is back for a second round. Nelma Mortis is the party's new candidate for Caribbean Shores.
