Legendary Lord Rhaburn Injured In Hit And Run, Cops Trying To Find Driver
posted (August 28, 2024)
He's Belize's greatest Breakdown and Calypso Legend, and even at the age of 88, Lord Rhaburn is still a show stopping performer. But the living legend is recovering from injury tonight after he was injured in a close call last week Thursday. Police say that at 11:00pm, Rhaburn was getting out of a taxi in front of his Coney Drive home when a passing vehicle struck the door he had opened, leaving him with a face injury. The vehicle sped off and Rhaburn was rushed to the hospital for treatment. He is now recovering at home and his prognosis is favourable.

But, who did it and can police find the perpetrator? To do that they will have to piece together surveillance video from the neighborhood's many businesses. There's been some suggestion that the cops are not tracking down those videos vigorously enough - which the Compol rejected today:

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"That is not true. I know that I had received a complaint in that respect and I had checked with Mr Romero who is the officer commanding Eastern Division and he has assured me that he has checked the routes, they have found some footage but the footage is not clear enough for the police to be able to identify exactly who the person or persons were in that vehicle that was involved in the hitting of Mr Lord Rhaburn and again I want to join Renata and Mr Mendez on their show this morning by saying the person who has the heart to knock down an elderly citizen is a heartless person. At the very least they ought to have stopped and checked if the senior citizen was okay and have him ferried to the hospital and take responsibility. But when we have people who just knock down an elderly man or woman and just drive off then that is not a human being no more so I would hope that their guilt is going to play on their conscience and they're going to come forward and say I did it, I'm sorry, and then we can move on from there."

We'll let you know if and when police make an arrest.
