posted (August 28, 2024)
The PM has had a busy month - returning from Japan, then heading to the Dominican Republic, and he's just returned from his trip to Guatemala. He met with the President, Bernardo Arévalo, to talk about trade and border security, among other issues. He told us more today.

John Briceno, Prime Minister
"On the Guatemala issue, we had a very good meeting with President Arevalo, several of our ministers presented along with their ministers and we addressed many issues including the issue of trade, border, the Sarstoon and how we can continue to work closer between both countries and also the issue of the ICJ. Quickly, what was agreed to is that we're going to set subcommittees for example in the issue of trade that will be able to address the stumbling blocks that they're not allowing for the limited PSA that we have signed on so that that can come on board. With the issue of the border incursions and the Sarstoon, again, both the BDF and the Guatemalan Armed Forces to be able to meet, to work out how is it that we'll be able to have better communications and coordinations in this area so it has been a very successful meeting. in the afternoon, there was almost 20 Belizean investors lookin either for A) markets in Guatemala or B) investors coming to Belize. We had a meeting at AG Export, it's the largest organization in Guatemala that deals with export of products so we had a meeting with them and then there was a lot of networking to see, whilst they can access our market, we can also access their market."
