posted (September 27, 2024)
Earlier today, News 5 published a story in which a resident from Matura Street said that on Monday night, he was headed towards his outhouse, when police ambushed him and shot him with rubber bullets.

Late this evening, the police department issued a statement about the incident, along with surveillance video. The statement details that around 10:40 on Monday night, their monitoring system detected an incident on Central American Boulevard. An elderly man was walking on the street when three men came out of Matura Street and ran towards him. The camera then detected the young men searching the elderly man, who was now lying on the ground.

The monitoring team then relayed the information to the police, who arrived at the scene about three minutes later. They then went into the residence where the young men had run out of. During the search, the police saw a man who matched the description of one of the attackers and took him into custody. However, according to the release, the man made a sudden movement, as if he were reaching for something, which caused an officer to fire one non-lethal rubber bullet.

The detainee was then taken to the police station at about 10:47 and issued with a medico-legal form. Just after 11, he was then taken to the KHMH for evaluation.

The release then said, quote, "The entire incident-from the initial attack to the medical assessment-was managed efficiently, concluding in 36 minutes. This rapid response underscores the dedication of our officers and the monitoring team's commitment to safeguarding all community members' well-being." End quote.
