Cop Remanded After Pistol Whipping Olympian
posted (September 30, 2024)
Belize's only Olympian in 2024, 31-year-old Shaun Gill, was pistol whipped by a police officer on Thursday. He was along with a female cop in a vehicle when a Dodge Charger began following them. After the Dodge intercepted them, the driver, 29-year-old Constable Lewis Pascascio assaulted Gill - in an attack borne out of jealousy over the woman Gill was with. Police gave us more details today.

ACP Hilberto Romero, OCED
"He was driving his vehicle along with a female on cemetery road when he was intercepted by another vehicle who blocked his way. Thereafter Shaun Gill made checks to see what was happening, at this point he was assaulted by a male person who hit him on the head with a firearm. Thereafter another police who was in the area intervened and the firearm was taken away from this male person. An investigation was carried out and we have since arrested and charged Lewis Pascascio, a police officer, with the crime of aggravated assault, he was taken to court this morning."

Courtney Menzies:
"Did he also threaten Shaun Gill when he went to make a report?"

ACP Hilberto Romero, OCED
"There was some incident, they were both at the station at the time, there was an exchange of words, that is also being dealt with."

Pascascio reportedly told Gill that if he made the report it would, quote, "be the last report" he makes.

This morning, he was arraigned for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and remanded until November 30th. However, the charge of use of threatening words was dismissed by the prosecutor.
