posted (October 3, 2024)

And while those 80 megawatts from Mexico remain "iffy", that's not the only thing the government has on its wish list for the new president Claudia Sheinbaum. They are also asking her to continue with the extraordinary break on import tariffs which her predecessor generously extended to Belize. Today the CEO for Agriculture explained:

Servulo Baeza, CEO - Min of Agriculture
"Lopez Obrador, he had given Belize a one year tariff free access into Mexico, which for us was great, anything he said that we produce we could bing it into Mexico tariff free, that is great news, for instance, for our cattle exporters."

"The discussions that we've been having with them, I know our Prime Minister and our Minister of Foreign Trade, even our Minister of Agriculture, has been to try to ensure that we maintain that status, and my understanding is that the new president has given her commitment that whatever arrangements we had with the previous administrations, even though it's the same party, that she has given the commitment that she would continue, that these arrangements that we have with them will continue, so that is very good news for us."

President Sheinbaum and her predecessor are both from the same party named "Morena".
