Hauling Houses On The Highway, There Are Rules For That
posted (October 3, 2024)

If you travel on the country's highways, you've surely seen houses on trailers going along the road - the oversized loads taking up two lanes and forcing drivers to the shoulder of the highway.

It's a major cause of traffic jams and headaches, and tonight the Ministry of Transport is reminding the house movers what the law is. First any movement of houses on public highways requires prior approval from the ministry in the form of a permit.

All houses being transported must be accompanied by police or transport department vehicles. These escort vehicles are there to alert other road users, and ensure the safe and efficient movement of oversized loads.

A release says" the Department of Transport will actively monitor these movements to ensure compliance with the law and will take enforcement measures against those found in violation."
