PM Says MSC Shipping Wants Stake Bank And Port Of Belize
posted (October 7, 2024)
MSC is known as one of the biggest cruise lines in the world, but it's also the Mediterranean Shipping Company. And today appearing on one of the morning shows, the Prime Minister said that MSC wants to buy the Stake Bank Cruise terminal.

In fact, he suggested that's one of the main reasons government compulsorily acquired it to clear out what he characterized as a messy dispute between owner Mike Feinstein and financier OPSA.

The Prime Minister said, quote, "We have MSC, one of the largest cruise lines, and also they do container. They move, the largest company to move containers around the world. They have over 200,000 people working. They're saying, well, no, we'd be interested, but we don't want to get into this mess. The only way we'd be interested if this mess is settled and we buy over them, so that the only way we can do that is by compulsory acquiring land"

"MSC, well, we're hoping now MSC has come to Belize and met with them here. Albino and two other persons-the top people from MSC and said they're excited. They came for the first time to Belize and they flew by helicopter and look at, you know, the blue hole, the reef, the country. And there he says, you guys have one of the most beautiful countries, we want in. We spoke to them about the port of Belize and they say, well, we prepare to do this and also import and consider investing in the container portion of the port. So exciting things are coming."

So, there you have it. MSC - with a market capitalization of just under 5 billion dollars is interested in the Stake Bank Port, and the Port of Belize.

But, this revelation also lends credence to what the Feinstein Group has been saying and showing in a leaked email - that operatives sympathetic to OPSA tried to sell the island to MSC cruises even before receivership was declared. That matter is now part of the evidence of a lawsuit pending in the high court.
