posted (October 7, 2024)
It's not every day you hear about a 90 year old going to court, but today, Belizean American Roy Alec Tillett, a former US Air Force soldier, pleaded guilty to the charge of importing a controlled drug. He was arrested on October 5th at the PGIA for attempting to bring 5.28 pounds of marijuana into Belize. In court, he was fined $7,000 and a $5 cost of court fee. If unpaid, he faces up to three years in prison.

Additionally, Tillett was also charged with failing to declare over 33,800 dollars worth of currency in his baggage, which included both Belize and US dollars. He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail of $10,000. The customs case could see him liable for a forfeiture of three times the undeclared amount, equating to over $101,000 BZ.

His next court date is December ninth.
