Two Brazen Belmopan Armed Robberies
posted (October 10, 2024)

The commissioner of police is fond of boasting that major crime is down by double digit percentage - but, the reality on the ground belies that and we have been reporting on a number of aggravated burglaries and armed robberies targeting private citizens and businesses recently. There were two in Belmopan yesterday.

First, a Bowen and Bowen delivery truck was targeted in a daring and well choreographed armed robbery in the capital yesterday morning. 20 year old Jacob Francis reported that around 10:45 a.m., while on George Price Boulevard with the truck driver and a sideman, they were ambushed by two armed men.

Francis saw a Lifan motorcycle parked on the roadside before a heavily tinted black Nissan Rogue blocked the truck's path. Two armed men exited the vehicle, one wielding a 9mm pistol, and demanded money. The robbers made off with over seven thousand dollars in cash, two cellphones, and other personal items. Police processed the scene and are reviewing surveillance footage, but the perpetrators remain unidentified.

And around midday, one of the Capital's well known pharmacies was robbed - last a gunpoint. Lopez Pharmacy on the Ring Road was targeted at 12:30 p.m.

26 year old Pharmacist Elia Quiroz, was attending to customers alongside two co-workers when two men entered the establishment armed with what appeared to be 9mm pistols.

The assailants, dressed in dark clothing and wearing helmets with sunglasses covering their faces, robbed the pharmacy of a few hundred dollars in cash before fleeing on a black scooter. Police processed the scene, and three persons have been detained for questioning
