Alleged Fuel Smuggler Gets Slap On Wrist
posted (October 15, 2024)
On Friday, we told you about the truck load of diesel smuggled in from Guatemala and intercepted in Independence village.

Well, according to best information we could gather, the smuggler has well placed political connections - so instead of having the fuel taken away and face a fine for three times the value, he was - incredibly - allowed to apply for an import license. This basically means that the Ministry of Finance is bending over backward to enable a person whose smuggling business erodes their most taxed commodity.

So, our reports say this smuggler will get only a slap on the wrist in the form of a modest fine and be allowed to keep the fuel.

The total haul is about 1400 gallons of fuel loaded in barrels.
