The Alliance for Democracy's unity convention is set for Sunday and if you're wondering whether it's a UDP convention or not, well, we are too.
According to the Leader of the Opposition, the party isn't hosting any conventions, as they've already agreed to stick with him and his executive until after the next general elections. But what happens on Sunday if valid UDP delegates show up at the Civic Center and vote in a new party leader and chairman?
He says nothing will change, since it goes against their constitution. And he added that whatever the AFD does is none of his business because their spokespeople - Tracy Panton and Patrick Faber - are not a part of his party.

"We have tried to refrain from legal action but it is not the UDP anything so these people an entity onto themselves and while they are expelled members, former members of the party, whatever they are doing has absolutely nothing to do with the UDP proper so it is not an accurate factual description to refer to these people as the UDP so whatever the PUP does or the PNP does or the Progressive Party or the Alliance Party is of little concern to the UDP."

"What makes a convention though is the presence of delegates, do you suspect that there will be a number of UDP delegates present there?"

"We have to be rooted in reality. As upset as Belizeans may become, id we all decide, 100,000 Belizeans decide to go out and vote, it doesn't matter unless the elections are actually called. We can't have a citizens elections. Even in the instance where Boots Martinez submitted a recall petition to the Governor General and it was rejected, he could have a recall election if he wants but it would have no legal impact so at the end of the day, the rules are the rules, the constitution of the UDP is the constitution of the UDP and people don't exist in an organization in an orbit onto themselves. You have conform to the rules and the constitution of that organization and when you act outside of that then you become another organization and we wish you well."
