51 year old Cecil Gilbert Franklin, also known as G.I. Joe, was remanded to the Belize Central Prison after he was charged with the rape of a 58-year-old woman. Franklin appeared unrepresented before the magistrate and, given the severity of the offense, no plea was taken.
The charge stems from an incident that occurred on October 21. The victim, a mother residing in the Southside area of Belize City, reported that was attacked by Franklin as she arrived at her apartment around 8:40 in the night. She stated that Franklin, who she recognized, ambushed her at her door, holding a knife to her throat before forcing her inside, where he allegedly raped her. Franklin was detained shortly after the incident.
He will be back in court on December 19. Franklin has also had previous convictions for robbery, wounding, and burglary.
