KHMHA Union Says New Legislation Takes Them Out Of The Room
posted (October 25, 2024)
The KHMH Workers Union is raising an uproar tonight - they say the government pulled a fast one when it recently amended the KHMH Authority Act. The amendment, quote, "unilaterally removed the KHMHAWU's right to representation on the Board of Governors, replacing it with a representative from the National Trade Union Congress of Belize, who cannot be a member of the KHMHA Workers Union."

The government responded yesterday saying, quote, "This initiative is grounded in the belief that comprehensive representation promotes a more equitable and effective decision-making process, benefiting both employees and the organization as a whole."

By having (the NTUCB) on the Board, we will ensure that the diverse interests and perspectives of all employees are effectively represented," end quote.

Well, the UDP weighed in today, saying, quote, "this is just the latest attempt to further silence the voice of KHMH employees. These hard-working health employees who sweat and sacrificed during the Covid pandemic are now being shunned by the Prime Minister, the Minister of Health and the CEO of the KHMH...The UDP...calls on government to immediately kill the bill..."
