The history of aggression by the Guatemalan Navy on the Sarstoon is well known and that's why we took note when the United States southern Command donated 13 million dollars worth of military equipment to Guatemala. The event was held on Wednesday and it was attended by the Guatemalan Defense Minister, Henry Saenz, and the head of the U.S. Southern Command, Laura Richardson, who was on a visit. According to the Southern Command, the donation includes spare parts for vehicles, boats and aircraft , as well as communication and personal protection equipment to help, quote, "strengthen Guatemala's security and efforts against illicit trafficking."
The Guatemalan navy recently used one of its vessels to ram a Belizean civilian vessel that was well within Belize's territorial waters.
