Police found 4.2 pounds of marijuana at a Belize City home yesterday. It was found at the residence of a prominent figure affiliated with the PIV gang. But he wasn't home at the time, so the cops put out a warrant for his arrest. Another person who was at the home was detained pending charges.
Well, 12 hours later, in what we are told is a related development, at around 9:00 last night, the SPU reports finding two pistols and a makeshift rifle in an abandoned lot in the PIV area. Reports tell this newsroom that the guns were given up by the gang figure to escape criminal charges for the weed found on his property.
But, the commissioner denies that. He says the gang figure could not be charged for the weed because he was not at home and the weed wasn't found in the home, it was found in the yard. He indicated that only the caretaker who was in the yard with the weed would be charged. Late reports tell us however, that he too may escape being charged.
