A BDF soldier has written an anonymous letter to the Prime Minister asking for a salary raise. The soldier stated that he has been serving the country for ten years with no allowances and increment pauses. He even attached his pay slip, which shows that he receives around $786 every two weeks - essentially $1,572 per month.
He adds, quote, "My pay is very small and Christmas is soon coming can't even buy my kids a bike cause the salary isn't much." End quote.
He then went on to speculate that one of the reasons why there are more police officers than BDF soldiers is because of the low salary rates and increment freezes. He states that, quote, "some of us are happy to go home to work on the side and make an extra to make ends meet - some of us are even happy to be at work so the bank stops bothering us and different lending institutions." End quote.
He closes off his statement claiming that they receive little to no moral support from the brigadier general, compared to the support given by the commissioner to his officers.
