One man is detained from Friday's apparent murder on San Pedro. As we told you on Friday, the victim, Matthew Moses, was shot several times in the Secret Beach area of Ambergris Caye. Moses, who recently returned to the island after visiting family in Libertad Village, was allegedly aggressing a caretaker in the area. The dispute apparently stems from earlier issues between Moses and the owner of the property - an American who fled the country.
Police told us what they know so far:
ACP Hilberto Romero, OCED
"Investigation revealed that Matthew Moses had altercation with a male person in that area. This person has been taken into custody. A licensed firearm was retrieved from him. An investigation is being carried out and at the conclusion will determine if any charges are be levied."
"It was a long misunderstanding they had over a period of time and that is what led to the shooting."
Police are waiting on instruction from the DPP's office to determine if charges should be brought.
