But if the decision was left to the Minister he says he would have an entirely different approach: he wants to make KHMH a public hospital again - thus undoing what a former PUP government did two decades ago:

"Now if you would ask me, I have my own position that I would want to see KHMH come under the Ministry of Health. That is my view. Then there will be no need for a board. However, like I said that is my position. However we are not in that direction. We are not going to do that, but I am just saying if you asked me about my personal opinion that would have been the best option. Every time we get calls or reference KHMH, who gets the call? it's the ministry. In Belize people do not understand that there is a statutory body that is managed by a board, it is managed by a board of governors. But that aside I am saying that for us it has come out of house committee, we have not made a final decision as to whether we will proceed with this. We will look at and listen to the concerns and from there we will take it."
Sources tell us this idea was floated some time ago by the Ministry of Health, but the Prime Minister nixed it before it went to Cabinet.
