Mason Kidnapping Retrial Features Trinidadian Attorney
posted (November 22, 2024)
A retrial was ordered after William "Danny" Mason's mistrial in July for his kidnapping and blackmail charges. Mason has since sought new legal representation and in court today he appeared virtually with his new attorney, Trinidadian national, Peter Taylor. He is being assisted by three other attorneys, Nehanda Samuel, Eustace Warner, and Jamie Hibberd.

In court Justice Nigel Pilgrim set December 13th as the date for the case management conference. The disclosure files were supposed to be submitted on November 8th, and Taylor explained that while he did submit his, he did not have all witness statements and asked the court for time to get further instructions from his client.

Justice Pilgrim gave the defense until November 29th to file their documents and the crown has until December 6th to file her response to the court. A date for the retrial has been set in early February 2025.

Taylor also told the court that he wanted to make a bail application for Mason. Pilgrim told him that once it is in writing, the court will consider. Mason - we should note - is currently serving a life sentence for the murder of Pastor Llewelyn Lucas - and must serve 35 years before he can be eligible for parole.

Taylor says Mason is not a flight risk and he asked the court to have the crown release Mason's cellphone which police have had since 2016. He claims Mason says that phone could exonerate him.
