And the PUP are just as confused by the recent announcements as we are. Today we asked Kareem Musa about the switch in his constituency - Barrow's faction has named Tyrone Lauriano as the candidate in Caribbean Shores, replacing Dr Nelma Mortis, who will now shift over to Port Loyola.
Musa says the UDP's ever changing roster is toying with his heart.
Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs
"I tend not to try to get attached to my opponents, emotionally attached because they break up with me so quickly, this is now the third one. So I'm not going to get attached to this one because more than likely they'll have a few more changes before the election."
Courtney Menzies:
"Do you feel like in a way UDP has kind of conceded Caribbean shores?"
Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs
"I don't believe that they're conceding anything. I think the more important question is who is the UDP? Because Tyrone Lauriano may be running for Shyne Barrow's UDP, but he might not be the candidate for Tracy Panton's UDP. And so, it's yet to be seen whether they're conceding or not. It's really confusing just to be honest. It seems to be some level of high stakes poker that they're playing in terms of bluffing, I see Lee Mark now going into Mesopotamia. And I believe that is a direct reaction to Shyne Barrow announcing that Almendarez is now running in Belize rural central. And so there's a lot of bluff poker taking place. At the end of the day, we'll have to see one, who the court declares as the leader of the UDP if it does even address that issue because, as you know, a political parties are not legal entities. So, to see who the court declares as the leader and then to see if the other party, whoever that is, if they advance candidates within those divisions."
Lauriano ran on the losing UDP slate in the March 2024 general elections.
