Here in this newsroom, we've been observing a major shift in citizen security in the country as it relates to murder.
The city streets have been relatively quiet, and since mid year, the homicides that do happen tend to not be gang related.
Knock on wood, but it could be another year where the number of murders totals less than 100.
According to the police minister, that shift is due to the strategies that they have been putting into place over the last four years.

"I believe so, I think we are still below the numbers when we look at the homicide rate of 2023, I think we are below those numbers and we still have one month to go. But at the same time. We just have to keep, applying the pressure whether it is active policing within these crime prone areas, the LIU of course doing a great job in terms of rehabilitation reform and offering alternatives. I think all these different strategies that we have been employing over the last few years have been the cause and the result, we are seeing the results today of all these strategies being employed."
