He was the star, or maybe the villain in a video that our Facebook page says was viewed over two hundred thousand times in just just 36 hours, but tonight Evan Cain, known as " Sweetbwai Caine" is in jail pending sentencing for the aggravated assault of the traffic officer he pushed off a bus.
Caine, who says he is a part-time conductor - was seen on the video pushing traffic officer Kenrick Deshield off the bus - he did so to the cheers of standing commuters. On Tuesday, the officer had stopped and boarded the bus going from Benny's towards SMART because it was overcrowded and the door was opened.
He says that when he boarded the bus, he encountered 31 year old Cain who told him that he needs to get off. That's when Caine along with another man pushed the traffic officer off the bus. Today Cain appeared in the magistrates court where he was read a single charge of aggravated assault upon a public officer. Caine pleaded guilty to the charge and was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until December 4th 2024.
The magistrate told him that he showed no remorse. She has directed that the warden be present in court on sentencing day so Caine can apologize to him, and then she will determine sentencing.
And there could also be consequences for the bus line.
A release issued by the Ministry Of Transport today condemns the assault upon the traffic Warden detailing that "The Department of Transport has initiated a thorough investigation into this incident and will take all necessary steps to sanction the bus company involved, for any offences or violations of their road service permit."
