And, the recent aggravated burglary of a Free Zone warehouse highlighted the vast amounts of cash stockpiled in the zone. Tens of millions of pesos were stolen - according to sources - and police recovered over 4 million of it.
We asked the Governor for his thoughts:
Jules Vasquez:
"We saw this burglary at the freezone. Again a law enforcement matter, not a matter for you. But it has excite the attention or attract the attention of the regulator when I'm told that the amount stolen was over 40 million Pesos in cash."

"Apparently, anecdotally and by police we know that there are large stock "piles of liquid cash in the freezone."

"Yes, I hope those remain in the north or go north."
