And while that incident was caught on camera, police officers have told the family of 65 year old Collet Tillett that there were no cameras that caught the car that knocked him down and left him for dead. That incident occurred on Friday night around 3rd Street South and 5th Avenue in Corozal Town. By the time Tillett was transported to the hospital, he had already passed away.
But his family doesn't believe that there were no cameras working in that area, especially since there are a number of businesses there. We spoke to his niece via phone today, who told us that the police had not even informed them of the accident. She lives in Cozumel, Mexico, and explained that after she received a phone call, she sent her daughter to check the hospitals in Corozal and Orange Walk.

"They gave us no information, nothing, we didn't know anything that took place. All we know is what they called and told us. Then a neighbor said that she was nearby when it happened. The police took long to reach. I don't know, we can't go on heresy, we don't know what's going on. And then all the police told my mom yesterday is that the camera is not working. That's crazy. The area he got hit is full of cameras, so none of the cameras are working? That's a lie. I don't know if it's because they see him barefoot, look dirty, I don't know if they think he's a dog, I don't know. But they're not assisting us, nothing, for us to find out what happened to our uncle."
"The thing is I don't know how true it is because one person told me they hit him and they left him right there. The person didn't stop, didn't ease up or anything. While he was there on the ground, another vehicle came and ran over him because he didn't see him on the ground."
"Yes, he walks around, he goes to the market in the morning and he helps right there. He's a handyman, anybody asks him to do anything, he does it. But then, 8:00 the night is the latest you would see him going home."
"He is a happy person. He doesn't bother anybody, he likes to drink and when he is high, he dances and then he goes home. I went home like three weeks ago and I saw him so whenever I go home, I always wait on the side of the road just to see him pass. all he always has to tell us is one love, jah bless."
Tillett had no children.
