Convicted of Extortion, But Cop Goes Home For Christmas
posted (December 11, 2024)
A cop who was convicted of extortion on October 31st is tonight at home with his family, and will be with them for the holidays, after he was offered bail pending sentencing. Jairo Amador was found guilty by jury after he was convicted of extorting a Canadian tourist at a checkpoint in Hattieville.

He reportedly told her she had no insurance for her rental vehicle and that she would go to jail until Monday since it was a weekend. He then asked her for a "donation" and because she was frightened, she gave him $100.

This morning in court, there was a delay in his sentencing. During the mitigation plea, his attorney Norman Rodriguez expressed to the court that he was having difficulties getting in communication with his character witnesses. With no objection to bail by the crown, Justice Derick Sylvester offered it in the sum of $5,000 plus one surety.

The case was adjourned for January 24th.
