More is known tonight about the attempted burglary at a remote southern resort which led to the alleged culprit's death. At 2:00 am, an American couple who were staying at the Reef's End Resort on Tobacco Caye woke up to find an intruder in their room. The man was going through their possessions and when the male guest, named Scott Taylor shouted at him, the intruder tried to run away, but with their possessions in his hand. Taylor says he chased him and that's when the intruder jumped over the balcony - with Taylor jumping right behind him. They started to have a physical struggle - and shortly after staff from the property arrived and restrained the suspected burglar. But he was seen struggling to breathe and passed away shortly after. When police arrived they found him motionless with scrapes on both his knees, scratches on his ankle and apparent swelling on his neck while Taylor had bite marks on his left hand, several scrapes and scratches on his back, neck and buttocks area. The alleged intruder also had four twenty dollar US notes on him - which Taylor said were stolen from him.

Police noted that entry was gained from the door of the Cabanas which was not properly locked. The deceased man was identified as Leonard Baltazar, 22 years old. He was last seen in Dangriga the day before when he told his family he was going fishing.
