Accused Of Outrageous Crime, Pastor's Family Gets Bail
posted (December 13, 2024)
In Late October, Luis Tiul Sr, A Belmopan pastor along with his son, wife, and mother were arraigned on charges of aggravated assault, wounding, sexual assault and administering noxious matter to the wife of 24 year old Luis Tiul Jr. She was reportedly held captive by the family for 8 days and tortured after she attempted to visit her own family but ended up returning to her in-laws. It was an incredible story of capture and cruelty that shocked and outraged Belmopan.

But, while much has been alleged, nothing has been proven, and tonight, they are out on bail. On December 9th an application for high court bail was made by the family's attorney Hurl Hamilton. And yesterday Justice Derick Sylvester granted them bail in the sum of $20,000. The court proceedings took place virtually, and a heavy objection to bail was made by the DPP's office represented by Dercene Staine.

Still, the four family members, Luis Tiul Jr, and Sr, Elizabeth Tiul and Matilda Gomez were granted bail of $20,0000, with four sureties of $5,000 each. Bail was granted under the condition that the family must relocate to Corozal in order to ensure that they do not interfere with the victim. They must also sign in at the Corozal Police station three times for the week with effect from December 16th 2024.
