And this morning the Commissioner of Police was a guest on Sunup on 7. He discussed the crime and explained that the residents have been very helpful in their investigation. He added though, that the officers conducting it have been cautious when interviewing the children.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"It was already bad to kill the mother and father but when you have a person who would take a gun and put it on a 2-3 year old toddler that is no longer a human being. It's really really sad and I am happy to see that the police with the support of the community were able to respond as quickly as they did not just in terms of getting information but also to have made sure that the perpetrator was detained and then we have the 11 year old who was able to escape the scene she was shot as well but she is recovering well and then we also have another 9 year old who also escaped unhurt but the trauma that both of them are going through at this time is one that is certainly going to require them getting some professional assistance, even in terms of interviewing them as it relates to what transpired it is difficult, and the police have to tread very carefully in the interview. We are happy with the support of social, and human development, the social workers, who also came out to assist the police in dealing with the two surviving children. Again, it is a time where the community needs to come together and the people of monkey river I must say we're very helpful."
