44 year old Glenford Logan was released from prison today after he was accused of murder more than 20 years ago.
He reunited with his mother outside the court after more than 2 decades behind bars.
When his case was called up before Justice Nigel Pilgrim in the High Court, there was no case file available. Based on his Logan's legal aid attorney's written submissions to the court, Justice Nigel Pilgrim was of the view that Logans Constitutional Rights were violated and after 21 years, knowing he is not fit to stand trial, he set him free.
He was the person held the longest on remand after he was deemed unfit to stand trial for the murder.
Documents from the prison psychiatrist Jose Matus says Logan was diagnosed with "Schizophrenia". Logan was turned over into the care of his mother who sat patiently waiting for her son to be released.
On August 8, 2000, at the age of 19, Logan was arraigned at the Belize City Magistrate's Court for the murder of Security Guard, Kingsford Obeng which had occurred on Saturday, August 5, 2000.
