A man was beaten to death in Corozal last night but the police have so far labeled the incident a death investigation- not a murder. Reports are that Anthony Lewis entered a home on G Street and reportedly got into an argument with a woman living at the home. The family then allegedly defended themselves and during the fight, reports say Lewis was tied up and killed.
According to reports, the argument stemmed from charges of carnal knowledge Lewis was facing after he had an inappropriate relationship with the woman's daughter. And to make it all worse, Lewis had his two children aged 10 and 9 with him when he went to visit the house where he met his death.
ACP Hilberto Romero today said that police are trying to piece together the case.
ACP Hilberto Romero, OCED
"Investigation revealed that Lewis came to that house and he had a dispute with the family members there and there was a struggle which led to injuries being caused upon him. This matter is being investigated and the file will be sent to the DPP for directives."
Courtney Menzies:
"So as of now it's just a death investigation?"
ACP Hilberto Romero, OCED
"It is. Lewis had no lawful authority to be at that house, he was there and confronted the members there and so the injuries were caused to him."
Courtney Menzies:
"Is it true that, because we received reports that he had some type of relationship with one of the men's minor daughters."
ACP Hilberto Romero, OCED
"That is correct, he is presently on bail because he was charged and taken to court, that matter is pending trial at the Supreme Court."
Courtney Menzies:
"Is that a possible motive for why they attacked him?"
ACP Hilberto Romero, OCED
"He came to the house so they defended themselves and this is what happened."
Courtney Menzies:
"Was he acting aggressive?"
ACP Hilberto Romero, OCED
"Yes he attacked the family members at the house."
Courtney Menzies:
"And did he have his two children with him?"
ACP Hilberto Romero, OCED
"I cannot confirm that."
Up to newstime, police had not indicated that any charges will be brought - but this morning two makes and a female were detained.
