Tonight, the deadlock remains in the UDP - and there appears to be very little room for compromise. But, there is a signal from the Tracy Panton camp that it would be willing to agree to mediation. This follows up what she told us on Friday night:
Tracy Panton, UDP Alliance for Democracy
"I don't know that we have rejected any proposals. We have agreed to go to mediation. It was encouraged by the judge. While the judge fell short of making an order for us to go to mediation, he strongly encouraged it. Our legal advisor also encouraged it. And we will be indicating to the court prior to January 6, which is our deadline, that we intend to go to mediation, a court-facilitated mediation. And at that time, I think these proposals can be placed on the table."
Well today her attorney Ellis Arnold sent a letter to the Registrar of the High Court saying, quote, "The Defendants, therefore, now inform the Court that they require the assistance of the court to facilitate mediation. It is anticipated that Counsel shall continue dialogue in order to identify an agreed Mediator."
It's a positive sign from the Panton camp - but reconciliation appears very far off. Later on in the news, you'll hear Shyne Barrow's attorney slam Tracy Panton for her remarks to us on Friday night, he says she's taken enough rope to hang herself.
