In November of 2024, the opposition and social partners in the senate did not support GOB's resolution to appoint Deputy Auditor General Maria Rodriguez as acting Auditor General. But the PM told us earlier this week that even after they put out the vacancy only three persons applied, one of them being Rodriguez, and in the end they decided that she was the only candidate who qualified for the post. He explained how they came to this decision.
John Briceno, Prime Minister
"Yes the auditor general, we went through the process and it was advertised, three persons applied then the cabinet secretary, the financial secretary and the CEO for public service. Yes we went through the process we advertised it and three persons applied. We had the cabinet secretary, the financial secretary and the CEO for the public service that did the interview process. Each one of them were interviewed extensively and the cabinet secretary informed the cabinet yesterday that they will be recommending the Deputy, Maria Rodriguez they will be recommending her to take over the post of auditor general. Obviously that is something that has to be approved by the legislature so at the next house meet we are going to present it and hope and accept we will accept the recommendation that has been made and then it goes to the senate and then to the governor general."
