Neighbors Gather To Help Extinguish Small Fire
posted (January 21, 2025)
Yesterday evening, a family living in Majestic Alley feared they would lose their home after a fire broke out. Fortunately, with the help of their neighbors, they were able to extinguish it before it could cause any major damage or life-threatening injuries. Asia Ferguson explained that they were nearby when they heard the shouts of their neighbors.

Asia Ferguson, Fire Victim
"We were in his cousin's yard yesterday sitting down and all of a sudden we heard someone yell, "fire by Shane house." That's his brother's name so we got up and when we turn the lane, we just saw smoke coming out of our house and I got overwhelmed, I couldn't even move, I sat down on the sidewalk and I started to cry because I didn't know what to do. And his uncle was at home at the time but he suffered from a stroke so he can't move as fast so they were yelling, help his uncle, help his uncle. And it was frantic but people came, my neighbors they came and helped, they put out the fire and thankfully we still have a roof over our head and little to no damages. We lost a few stuff, just the chair, my baby playpen, but it's okay because we have life overall and I am grateful for my neighbors of course."

Courtney Menzies:
"Do you have any idea how it started?"

Asia Ferguson, Fire Victim
"Well just from the chair, I don't know- they said the power bank blew up but the power bank is still working and so I don't know what really happened, I can't say."

Courtney Menzies:
"So it started where your couch was?"

Asia Ferguson, Fire Victim
"Yes my chair was on the side of the wall and we have a curtain hung behind it and then the playpen sits beside the chair and a table and those were the only things that were destroyed and the smoke damage, only that."

Courtney Menzies:
"In terms of the house itself, no major damages?"

Asia Ferguson, Fire Victim
"No, the window burnt, and the one that they tried to open from the back, they broke that in and that's about it. Water, we already cleaned it up and everything because we have to get back so I'm grateful nothing else got destroyed, nobody house got burnt down cause today would have… I don't know."
