As we told you two nights ago, the Public Utilities Commission has given limited approval to Starlink internet service.
The Elon Musk company is a satellite internet service that would enable rural communities to connect to the internet with a small dish outside their homes.
They have registered a company in Belize and applied for a Class License in October. But it was denied. But, it was approved for limited circumstances - here's the PUC's explanation:
Sheena Garnett, Communications and Consumer Affairs, PUC
"After considering the consumer expectations, the existing regulatory framework, and the potential impact on the current telecommunication service providers, we at the PUC did not approve SBL's applications for the class license."
"However, we did approve that end users are allowed to import and operate Starlink equipment in under limited circumstances. We're going to allow end users to operate their Starlink terminals at these fixed locations that are currently in these parts of the country where there is absolutely no service, which is the unserved or underserved areas where existing internet providers are unable to provide that service."
"And the other limited circumstance is emergency situations. So these are in the event of natural disasters. And when the existing or other service providers are unable to provide emergency services under these circumstances."
Starlink is also approved for Vessels and Aircraft.
