Pastor's Son And Accomplice Remanded For Double Murder
posted (January 23, 2025)
Untitled Document A car dealer and a driver were remanded to prison today after they were charged for the murders of Burrell Boom residents, Felix Martinez and Adelita Gillett. The couple was killed in the vehicle on Monday night, leaving their loved ones shocked and devastated. To everyone they knew, Martinez and Gillett were friendly, ambitious, and dedicated to their 10 year old, who will now grow up without both his parents.

And tonight their entire community is in stunned disbelief - because both the accused killers are fellow villagers -one of them, a pastor's son.

So why were they killed? And who are the alleged murderers? Courtney Menzies was at the Magistrates Court this morning and has this story.

This is the moment 29 year old Jovannie Jones and 23 year old Jerwin Segura arrived at court to be arraigned for two counts of murder. The men are accused of killing 37 year old Felix Martinez and 40 year old Adelita Gillett.

The couple were shot multiple times on Monday night as they went to meet with a car dealer to whom they had paid 35 thousand dollars. That transaction occurred in October, and three months later, they had still not gotten their vehicle.

That car dealer reportedly told them to meet him near mile 31 on the Phillip Goldson Highway since he explained to them that he was towing another vehicle that he had just brought from the US.

Sometime between when the couple parked their Chevy Equinox on the side of the road and when a police officer discovered their bodies, the killer - or killers - fired a barrage of bullets at both the driver's and the passenger's side doors.

In court, Jones and Segura were unrepresented and they were remanded to prison until their next court date on March 25th.

Jones' father is a pastor who started the Olive Branch Church in Burrell Boom, and they resided in the same village along with the victims. Jones later moved to the US and began his car dealership company, River Valley Auto Sales & Imports, back in January 2023.

The families of both victims are still in a state of grief and disorientation as they prepare funeral arrangements and await to see the outcome of the case. Martinez's former place of work, National Bank of Belize, as well as Belize Bank where he worked before his death posted tributes on Facebook. Brodies Supermarket did the same for Gillett, where she was the pharmaceutical manager.
