The Commissioner of Police today posted, quote, "Our investigation did not unearth one iota of evidence to suggest that the victims of the double murder were robbed."
And that comment from the ComPol was made in response to a post made by News 5, whose story included the line, quote, "A blood trail in the vehicle suggests the money was stolen." The Commissioner made it clear that there was no robbery and would not entertain questions that any physical money was in the vehicle.
His post scolding that media house came after another post he made after the crime was initially reported as a murder/suicide by multiple social media pages - not Channel 7. But today Williams pleaded with the media to be more "responsible" with their reporting.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"So I truly want to appeal to you all as as members of the media, to please be more responsible and take into consideration the feeling of people who are grieving when they have lost their loved ones. I would ask that you please do that."
Reporter:
"Let me ask you for some clarity on that only because you called us out. I don't know that we said it was robbery, but that's not the point. The point I think what we said, that there were monies in the vehicle and those monies were missing or those moneys went missing. Is there any truth to that?"
"That money was on the scene and those monies were no longer there?"
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"Mr. Lopez, I'm sure that you took English 101, right? In English, certain things can be expressly stated and certain things can be implied from the comment made by Channel 5. It can be reasonably implied by any reasonable person that you all were suggesting that robbery was the motive. So let's not go there."
Reporter:
"Now was it a fact that monies were in the vehicle at the time."
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"If Channel 5 put money in the vehicle, then yes. If you did not put any, then I don't know because you all stick to a point of money being in the vehicle and robbery and a whole pile of foolishness where I don't know where you get it from, it need to stop."
