posted (January 27, 2025)
They may have been all chummy with the Ministry of Education in a stakeholders meeting last week, but the Belize National teachers Union still has issues. And On February 7th, they're opting to Belmopan to vent. They say 658 teachers have still not been paid their allowances and increments - and on Saturday, a council meeting confirmed the decision to take their protest to Belmopan. Here's what President Nadia Caliz reported to her members after the council meeting:

Nadia Caliz, President, BNTU
"Even if it's one teacher we have to represent you and today the branches who are present decide that we need to keep watch over our 658. So we will be in Belmopan on the 7th and repeat that, because we have to monitor the situation, we have to let you know that we care, we have to let you know that you matter. Every teacher matters."

The Minister of Education has said that over 95% of the issues have been resolved.
