CWU Demands Answers About Almendarez's Sudden Departure
posted (February 3, 2025)
6 days ago, SSB's CEO suddenly departed his post and since then no explanation has been forthcoming. Tonight, the Christian Workers Union - which represents the Social Security Board workers is demanding answers. They complain, quote, "SSB has yet to put out a credible narrative to explain why barely five months into his three-year contract, the CEO departed under dubious circumstances ... .SSB did not follow proper procedure when it linked hiring a CEO and a Deputy CEO. When the issue was raised it was met with certain defiance from the Board which stated that the legislation allows. The legislation however, refers to an Assistant CEO." End quote.

The CWU says Almendarez, quote, "gained support and respect of staff as he discussed matters of job security."

The union demands, quote, "that the Board acts prudently to make its case and provide a response ultimately assuring our Members and other Belizeans that the cost now appended to this action and to the SSB Fund is worth the end result"
