Finally, it is accomplished, the 23.4 acres of Stake Bank island has been acquired for the public purpose.
A second notice published today in the gazette today makes it official. That notice says it is for the public purpose, "Furthering objects of the Stake Bank Cruise Docking Facility Development Act; and Promoting Cruise Tourism in Belize through the completion of the development and infrastructure works required for the development, financing, construction, management, operation, and use of a cruise ship docking facility at the island of Stake Bank, and the development of Stake Bank Island for tourism purposes."
A high court judgement last week cleared the way for the acquisition to be completed.
The Prime Minister recently said, quote, "Stake Bank was a short term to medium term investment…. we knew that this was a temporary fix and then eventually we have to build somewhere near shore." End quote.
