He Left His Wife And Remarried, But Didn't Sign Divorce Papers
posted (February 5, 2025)
The old song says that "there must be 50 ways to leave your lover", but apparently Edermillo Azebedo couldn't even come up with one that worked. Tonight, the 61 year old has been charged for bigamy after his estranged wife tracked him down to find that he had remarried.

50-year-old Anastacia Garcia, from Guinea Grass, reported that she married Javier Garcia in 1997 - only to find out later that his legal name was Edermillo Azebedo.

In December 2010, the couple relocated from Benque to Guinea Grass and shortly after, Azebedo moved to San Pedro Town for work, leaving Garcia behind. By April 2013, he informed her that their relationship was not working and that he wanted to separate.

Two years later, in July 2015, Garcia learned that her husband had remarried in San Pedro. When she confronted him about the allegations, he denied them. Seeking official confirmation, she visited the Registry in 2016, where she verified that he had married another woman, Lesli Martinez, in 2014. She said that despite repeated requests over the years, Azebedo has not filed for divorce, leaving Garcia still legally married to him.

Following her complaint, police gathered evidence, including marriage certificates, and today charged Azebedo from San Pedro Town for the rarely used offence of bigamy. He will be arraigned tomorrow.
